R.I.P. Leroi Moore
Wednesday 20 August 2008 - 09:39:35
Leroi Moore, the sax player for the Dave Matthews Band, died last night due to complications from an ATV accident he was in on June 30th.
The band has been using a substitute sax player for their tour this season while Leroi was recovering. He was 46 years old. Rather than try to remember the details, here you go from cnn. com:
(CNN) -- LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday from complications stemming from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident, the band's publicist said.
LeRoi Moore, a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday.
Moore, 46, died "unexpectedly" at a hospital, publicist Ambrosia Healy said in a statement.
Moore was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, and had been rehabilitating at his L.A. home after the June 30 accident at his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Dave Matthews Band was formed in Charlottesville in 1991 by Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford and Moore, an established saxophonist in the local music scene.
Their first album, "Remember Two Things," was released in 1993 and featured what would become the band's trademark mixture of jazz, rock and world-music stylings.
"Jazz is probably my main influence, but at this stage I don't really consider myself a jazz musician," Moore is quoted as saying on the band's Web site. "I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas.
"
The band's follow-up record, "Under the Table and Dreaming," has been certified quadruple-platinum, selling over 4 million copies.
The group went ahead with a scheduled show Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, has been sitting in for Moore since Moore's accident.
Matthews announced the death of the band's "dear friend" to the crowd
The last East End! Success!
Tuesday 19 August 2008 - 13:34:39
The show this past friday for East End Fest was just great for us. Between the crowd singing and dancing, and the girls up on stage dancing...we really had a good time. We hope all that showed up enjoyed it as well. This coming saturday marks the end of our (known) festival dates for the summer, ending with the Fairport Music Festival this saturday (8/23). Friday (8/22) is a big High Fidelity show that we definitely can't wait for. Thanks all that have come to a bunch of the festival shows we have played this summer. Be sure to look for us in the Insider and Freetime for our end of summer and fall dates at many local bars.
Be sure to add us as a friend on myspace if you haven't already: www.myspace.com/bigeyedphishband
and also we have a Facebook group you can join (just search facebook groups for Big Eyed Phish)
Both of those help us to keep in touch with the fans to let you know about upcoming dates!
Here is a picture from the last East End Fest:
The Big Eyed Phish Logo!
Monday 28 July 2008 - 10:35:08
While surfing the internet (on actually a non-band related topic), I happen to come across an image that we are taking as our new band logo! The "big eyed fish" was drawn by Natalie Metzger, who has since given us permission to use it for advertising and merchandising! Much of her (very cool) artwork and photos can be found at The Fuzzy Slug, which is somewhat of an artistic blog for Natalie. She also has a podcast that can be found at Radioisopod. The band wants to share their appreciation for her allowing us to use the image.
Without further delay, the new Big Eyed Phish logo - as is shown on a sample bumper sticker:
Feel free to leave comments about it in our comments section or on our myspace!
(We are discussing merchandise, however at this point there is nothing for sale. We will let you know!)
Looking forward to East End Fest!!!!
The Festival circuit!

We would like to thank those that have come out to see the band at many of the local festivals we have played in the last month. You guys have really made us feel at home playing in front of any size Rochester crowd. From the thousands rocking out at East End Fest, to the much more relaxed atmosphere of the Corn Hill Festival, each festival we have played left a different satisfaction that we hoped was portrayed to the crowd. Some upcomming festivals include the Spencerport Canal Days this saturday (7/26), and a party for Park Ave Fest (details to be posted soon), and of course the August East End Fest - which Big Eyed Phish will be returning to the stage for!
Thanks again for your support and we'll be seeing you soon at one of many venues we will be playing to finish out the summer!
Upcomming Dave Matthews shows
Sunday 15 June 2008 - 14:04:35
For any fans out there heading to Darien Lake or Saratoga - we'll be there! Rumor has it that Brandon is bringing an acoustic guitar! If you are going to either of these shows and see us there, feel free to stop by and say hello!
East End fest results!

What a great time we had, and we owe it all to the literally thousands of people that rocked out with us! Don't believe me? Count the heads for yourself:
Pretty awesome if you ask me. From the feedback we got the show sounded pretty good, so despite the heat, sounds like it was a great success.
Next up for us is Bull and Bear Pub in Syracuse! Thanks to everyone who came out and we hope to see you all again (soon!)
East End Festival!
Friday 23 May 2008 - 11:47:30
Big Eyed Phish's next performance will most likely be our biggest (and best!) yet! We will be playing at the East End Festival in downtown Rochester.
For those that don't know, East End is a rather large party in Rochester which involves beer sold on closed-down streets, multiple stages with bands, food, etc... (http://www.eastendmusicfestival.com/). In general, its just a huge party!
Big Eyed Phish will be on the Matthews St./East Ave. Stage and will be going on at 9pm and playing till 11pm. If there was ever a show to come see, this is gonna be it!
Recordings, shows, and more!
Sunday 18 May 2008 - 19:05:48
Would like to thank everyone who came out to the Lilac Festival as well as some of our other recent shows in Syracuse, Brockport, and Rochester. Seems each show we play the sea of people grows and grows. As a special "thank you" to our fans, we have added a media player at the bottom of the page and will be updating it each week with songs from our recording live at Shamrock Jack's.
We are really looking forward to the summer months with shows at High Fidelity and EAST END FEST!
Brockport review!
Thursday 07 February 2008 - 13:35:07
On Feb 1st, Big Eyed Phish played to a great crowd at Merchant Street Smokehouse in Brockport, NY. The Brockport college newspaper "The Stylus" (www.thestylus.net) did an article on our performance.
We look forward to going back to the smoke house in March! Thanks for the great time!

Teaming with the Knighthawks!
Saturday 02 February 2008 - 13:56:53
Big Eyed Phish has been asked to open up at the Rochester Knighthawks game on Saturday, Feb 23rd. The Knighthawks are the Rochester area lacrosse team. The show will be at Blue Cross Arena with the band going on at 6pm! Hopefully we can see some new and old faces there to both rock out with Big Eyed Phish and see the Knighthawks stomp their competition!
